Counselling / Psychology / Mental Health

Counselling is the skilled and principled use of relationship to facilitate self-knowledge, emotional acceptance and growth and the optimal development of personal resources. The overall aim is to provide an opportunity to work towards living more satisfying and resourcefully.

Non-Registered Massage

This is a relaxation-style massage, administered by a capable student. The rates for these practitioners will be lower until they write their exams and become registered as massage therapists, and are not considered billable expenses to insurance.

Registered Massage

Please call to book an appointment with a registered massage therapist! Limited availability for new patients.

Ortho-Bionomy

Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle, non-invasive bodywork that works **with** your body. It is highly effective and safe, even for people who are highly sensitive, or have limitations due to pain or age. This gentle technique promotes long-lasting changes through gentle positioning of the body. Gentle enough for babies.

My name is Susan Candaele and I have been working as a counsellor for over 30 years. When I was a child, I wanted to be either a counsellor or an artist. However, I loved to do crafts, but I was only an artist in my dreams. Counselling may have been my calling!

Counselling or therapy, offers the opportunity to, learn more about oneself, to explore issues, situations or events that are currently upsetting or have been brewing for a long time, to change aspects of one’s life that are simply not working for you, and to address and begin healing from historical trauma and pain that continues to hurt and disrupt one’s life in the present.

I maintain a deep commitment to this work and choose to use a variety of perspectives, all in addition to the necessary client centred talk therapy. The most important aspect of the work is to establish a genuine, safe, and non-judgement relationship with you, the client. Once we achieve an emotionally safe environment, then the additional perspectives and techniques become useful. Dependent upon the presenting issue, ACT (acceptance commitment therapy), Existential exploration, CBMT (cognitive behavioural mindfulness therapy) Bowen’s family systems therapy, Emotion focused therapy, and Gestalt therapy are often useful to help you, the client, meet your goals.

Initially, to qualify to do this type of work I noticed an interest in people, that I felt curious about moods, emotions, and individual differences. I reflected on my early years and noted that no one in my life, up to then, talked about how they were feeling, yet many people in my life, seemed sad or resigned. Finally, someone told me that I should be a psychologist because I was good to talk to, that was it. I returned to school and after a few years, completed a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Simon Fraser University. Since then, I have taken many courses, workshops, seminars, and certificate programs. All inform my work and serve to keep me present and informed.

In conclusion, reaching out for help or looking for someone who might be able to help you figure out a current conflict or a prevailing sense of disquiet, is a strength. It requires a person to acknowledge that, on occasion, we need someone.
